Just a quick update to let you know that our hard-working and dedicated Mazer Cup International staff sent out your score sheets and Mazers yesterday. Keep an eye peeled for your results, you should be seeing them late this week or next week early hopefully.

Outside the USA will take a bit longer.

Cheers and congratulations to all you winners, and to all of you who entered. All of you are what makes the Mazer Cup International the great competition that it is, and we appreciate and thank you for participating. We’re working on some new ideas for next year that should be really great for all who enter.

2011 MCI Wrap Up!

OK folks, another successful Mazer Cup International Mead Competition in the history book. This was a great year for home and commercial entries. We had 512 total entries between home and commercial entries.

Winners and competition results will be posted Monday, April 4, 2011 evening-ish . . . .

Mead entries destroyed!

Hey folks, send some positive energy to Meadow Vista Honey Wines. Their competition entries and Winners Circle meads were smashed and broken by FedEX after making the most difficult part of the trip through Customs. There is another shipment on the way at FedEX’s expense. Lets hope they arrive safely in Boulder, CO in time for the MCI Commercial Competition and the Winners Circle. Think happy thoughts!

Check out the the final pairings list for the MCI Winners Circle on April 01, 2011. Don’t be an April Fool, get your tickets and join us!

Big News Folks!

We’ve added another excellent mead to the MCI Winners Circle. Pirtle Winery will be bringing along their excellent Blackberry Mead to pour for those attending. That makes 21 tastes of mead for those who attend the event. Oh yeah, and 21 bites of some pretty creative paired treats to go with them! See you there!

MCI 2011 Entries Closed

Well folks, entries are closed for the competition as of 03-18-2011. As it stands at present we have about to 520 total entries between the home and commercial competitions. We also have some “paper” entries to pick up at the drop-in locations around Boulder!

Not bad folks, not bad at all. We’ll see where the final tally ends up after attrition, no ships and such, but this is a very very great showing of professional and enthusiast produced mead!

Congratulations to you all and best of luck in the competition.

Alert: Mazers Spotted!

That’s right! The 2011 Mazers have made it from the artists gallery to the Mazer Cup workshops are are undergoing their final garnishing before being awarded to the deserving winners in the Mead (Home) competition!

2011.mci.winners.circle.flyer

We just received the tentative listing of gastro-pairings for the Winners Circle Paired Mead Tasting event on Friday, April 1, 2011 and things are looking great. It’s actually a wider variety than we had anticipated so we are working with Patrick King at The Boulder Outlook Hotel to tweak the pairings into shape!

This is going to be a great event since we have effectively doubled the size and scope of the 2010 Winners Circle. We’ll also be featuring three meads from well established meaderies (Rabbit’s Foot Meadery in California, Corpo in Poland, and Munro in Canada) and one mead from an up  and coming Meadery (Starrlight Meadery in North Carolina) as part of the tasting selection. Unfortunately one of our Gold Medal winners from the 2010 Mazer Cup Commercial competition  (Rosewood Estates) in the Pyment category elected not to participate in the 2011 Winners Circle. We’ve contacted the Silver Medal winner, Celestial Meads (recognize that name?) and they were more than happy to represent the Pyment category with their Raizin d’Etre Zinfandel Pyment which is an excellent replacement!

We’re very excited about the 2011 Winners Circle and hope to see you there. Remember that there are 20 meads being poured at this event so please, pace yourself and be responsible. We suggest a designated driver, or even better, book a room and enjoy a night out!
